Due to the Covid19 pandemic and the disruption of life altogether I became hyper-focused on the seasonal changes that surround me on a daily basis from my rural home in New York. Perhaps out of frustration, and a way to cope, I became obsessed with creating my own utopian world through my photography along with a way to highlight my innate yearning to literally hold onto nature’s evanescence.
I began constructing photographs, literally building them with my very own hyper-real tableau collected through hundreds of macro and landscape photographs taken over the last year. I approached photography in a new way, more as a painting or drawing tool as I strategically designed, organized, arranged and rearranged each element. I worked methodically utilizing dozens of layers in Photoshop as I merged multiple photographs into newly created configurations. Because I am an innately ultra-organized person I tackled this photo series in a similarly obsessive manner creatively. Fostering fancifully crafted compositions I began utilizing favorite elements, many plucked from my own flower garden. Blooms take flight and drift forming veiled walls, while snow and rain dance along in harmony. The interplay of conflicting seasonal elements and stylized colors is crucial to setting the mood as I follow-after nature’s ever-fleeting metamorphosis. My intention is to push and pull the viewers’ attention further into my illusory realm linked to the ever-mutable natural world that haunts and seduces my imagination.
